  • Our privacy policy (link below) details the use and protections for organisation and personal data provided through this application process including storage of the data in the TasRail Site Pass System hosted on another site.
  • Prior to being issued a TasRail SitePass photo ID card, as a prerequisite to entering TasRail property, you must complete a TasRail Online General Induction.   If you are undertaking a one time or short period access (less than one year) and you are not being engaged by TasRail you are not required to complete the general induction and you will be issued a certificate and not a card if you don’t want to upload a photo.   If your intended access or activities adjacent to TasRail land include being in close proximity to or in the rail corridor you are also required to undertake Track Safety Awareness (TSA) railway specific safety training.   TasRail may at its discretion, elect to waive TSA costs in certain circumstances.
  •  Applications can take up to 2 working days to process.
  • Track Safety Awareness (TSA) is railway specific safety awareness training provided to ensure the safety of people and of the network but does not give a right to access the rail corridor.  Where access is required, you will need a permit issued by property@tasrail.com.au.   For emergency access to the Network, please contact Train Control on 6335 2500.  UNAUTHORISED ACCESS IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.  The Track Safety Awareness induction process provides the following:
      • Provides an understanding of the dangers associated with being around the track:
      •   Assists you to identify specific risks;
      •   Explains rules for accessing and moving around the track including communications and signage; and
      •   Identifies strategies to employ for harm minimisation.
  •  TSA is an awareness of how to safely move adjacent to or in the rail corridor or a yard but does not grant a right of access, permission or notice, which must be given every time you intend to be near a rail track. Additional safeguards must be in place if you are doing anything more than just moving near the rail track including any activity that prevents you from being on constant lookout for a safe walking path and the movement of rail traffic. This also applies to work adjacent to the track or corridor that has the potential to impact the safe passage of rail traffic or maintenance staff.
  • If you have visual, hearing or mobility constraints, additional measures may also be needed, such as an escort to allow you safe access so these conditions must be declared whenever requesting access on to rail sites.
  • If engaged by Tasrail or its contractors or customers you will also be required to upload a passport sized photo for production of photo ID Site Pass card and complete a TasRail Online General Induction. Both TSA and General Induction Training are valid for 2 years.  For shorter periods of access you only need to complete the Short Term Access (Up to one year) Induction and TSA course and carry your certificate (hard copy or electronic) with photo ID whenever accessing under your permit.
  • The Online General induction provides an understanding of TasRail’s safety, health and regulatory obligations and conditions apply to access generally to all our sites.   On arrival at a site a site specificsite-specific induction will be provided and for specific sites such Burnie Bulk Handling facility an addition online site specific induction is to be undertaken prior to attendance at site.
  • Applications can take up to 2 working days to process so if you require this for urgent access you must organise that with the TasRail staff member or principal Contractor requesting your attendance.   To obtain a user name and password to allow access to the online General Induction and/or TSA training and assessment please provide the followingyour information below information:.  If you are applying for the Short Term Access TSA then please note this in box “How often will you access the site”
  • Note: TasRail is currently reviewing the costs associated with Track Safety Awareness and will update pricing arrangements in the near future.

  • On receipt of this information and confirmation of the requirement for you to undertake this assessment an email will be sent to you providing you with further instructions.
  • On satisfactory completion of your assessment, uploading of a photo and payment of any required fee you will be able to download a temporary certificate for use with photo ID as proof of assessment until such time as a photo ID Site Pass Card is mailed to you (14 day mailing cycle).
